The program for May 17th 2009 in Oslo is almost ready! Here are the highlights.
The Folk Museum has free entrance on May 17th (although all exhibitions are closed, you can still soak up the atmosphere between the old houses) with a children's parade starting at 12 (noon). There are lots of games and fun for children. At Kuba there are free concerts and festivities from 1500. There is a special church service in Trefoldighetskirken at 1500 as well.
Now if you don't want to get up too early or have a hard time deciding what to see, there are 5 things you simply cannot miss:
Most important: Have fun, look after your belongings and take loads of photos! It's a memorable day that most Norwegians love. Have a sneak preview on YouTube, for instance this one with English commentary, this one from the graduate parade (russetoget), one with the royal family, this one with bands playing, the Royal Guard (watch the whole thing!!) or this one from London. The latest weather reports state that the weather will be sunny and between 10 and 18 degrees celcius. Keep your fingers crossed!
